So you want to find a way to break out of the 9 to 5 by owning your own business. The possibilities are endless, but how do you know what is right for you?
What Are You Good At?
One of the most important questions to ask yourself when you decide you want to go into business for yourself is “What am I good at?”. Sit down and make a list. In fact, expand it to include what you are interested in. Check those things that can be used to make money and write them down as ‘business opportunities’ as part of your wealth creation plan.
Research, Research, Research
Once you have your list, you will need to do your homework. There are lots of “work at home” opportunities you will want to research. Check out reviews on companies you might join, as well as the Better Business Bureau. Maybe you are interested in starting a service business or affiliate marking.
You will need to find if that is needed in your area. Other things to look at are the legal ramifications of your business. There may be licenses to buy and other legal matters to take care of.
Save Your Money
This may seem out of place, but if at all possible start your business on money you have saved. If you can begin without going into debt, you will find that you have a head start on making money. It may mean that you can’t start the minute you find the right company, but it will be worth the wait.
Saving money regularly should also form part of your wealth creation plan.
Advertise
Look into different advertising avenues. Whether it is word of mouth or an ad in the paper, you need to make sure that word of your new business gets spread. A good way to advertise is to give your friends a discount to try your product or service, then ask them to help you spread the word. Other ways may be an open house and fliers.
Don’t forget the power of social media and the customer traffic that a SEO optimized website can bring – be sure to consult a SEO Consultant to get the most from your website.
Make a Plan
Setting goals for yourself and your business can be a great way to keep yourself motivated, and keep your business going forward. Make sure your goals are in black and white. Keep a business plan and work hard. It is the best way to break free from the 9 to 5.
Have a wonderful day
